This one is a no-brainer. Lots of party dresses come embellished with sequins, but some are infinitely superior than others. This holiday season, ditch those skimpy skin-tight dresses, and go for the roomier ones instead. Choose embellishments that look artful, not obvious. Throw an oversized tuxedo blazer or a chunky cardigan over a camisole-style sequined dress, wear dressy ankle booties with a short dress instead of high-heels, and layer a button up shirt under a t-shirt style sequined dress. Whatever you do, make it your own.
Sequined pants and skirts can be tricky to pull off. What you wear with those eye-catching bottoms can either make or break your outfit, so here are my personal rules to wearing sequined skirt or pants:
- If the bottoms are tight-fitting, go for a looser top, and vice versa.
- Sequins look amazing paired with cozy knits. Choose a similar colour palette for both (silver and gray, beige and gold, etc) for maximum chicness.
- Wear those sparkly bottoms with a more casual top if you are looking for just a touch of glamour.
- Pair your sequined skirt or pants with a button up, smart blazer, and heels to dress up the look.
Sequinned tops are super easy to wear this holiday season, and every woman should have one or two in her closet. Pair your sequined top with skinny jeans and heels, throw it under your work suit for your office holiday party, or wear one with an elegant pencil skirt. You can literally wear them with anything, but my fave look is a white button up layered under a sequined tee.
Just like a top, a sequined jacket can be worn with a variety of bottoms (think dressy joggers, boyfriend jeans, cigarette pants), and will make a perfect party-ready topper for a simple LBD. As mentioned above, keep the rest of your outfit simple, for a chic, yet festive look.
If you aren’t ready for a larger commitment, sequined accessories – from shoes, to bags could work just as well to add just a touch of sparkle to any outfit.
