World MasterCard Fashion Week hit the streets last week in David Pecaut Square, Toronto, as designers showcased all their new Spring/Summer 2016 collections! Being one of the biggest fashion events in Canada, Fashion Week brings the spotlight and sets the trends that will take over in the fashion world through 2016.
With several runway and studio shows, it was hard to keep up with all of the new looks, so we decided to a recap on some of our favourite designers.
We had our eyes on these 5 designers throughout #WMCFW: RUDSAK, Pink Tartan, Judith and Charles, and Mackage, who’s new designs can be found here at Yorkdale in the new year! The other designer we love is none other than Lucian Matis because how could he not be in our top 5?!
Inspired by all things aquatic, Evik Asatoorian brought the flow and lucidity to life through his leather jackets and linen separates as they flowed like ocean waves on the runway. The runway itself was made to look like the surface of a sunlit swimming pool as models walked dow in retro swim caps and goggles, and the most exciting part: Rudsak collaborated on creating a leather jacket with Emily Haines, Metric’s lead singer! Let the inner rocker out with Rudsak’s new spring/summer 2016 collection.
Kimberly Newport-Mimran is the designer behind the lovely brand that is Pink Tartan. Her classic fit-and-flare silhouette has been replaced with “boxy, relaxed shapes that telegraph a stylishly laidback attitude” for spring 2016. Inspired by the Mediterranean, she states that this kind of look is sexy and cool and that, “These looks can transport you to Bloor Street or Madison Avenue but you can also take it to the beach and feel just as fabulous.”
JUDITH & CHARLES
Judith & Charles fashion designs are a fusion and contrast of the two designers: feminine softness and strength are integrated with the inspirations of well-structured menswear. With blues, yellows, whites and stripes, their new spring/summer 2016 collection is perfect for the modern day woman!
For spring 2016, Elisa Dahan and Efran Elfassy introduced bold pops of colour to Mackage’s signature monochromatic mood and we love it! Designed for the urban warrior, the pops of colour add an playfulness to their already edgy look.
Acclaimed Canadian fashion designer Lucia Matis has graced the pages of many national and international publications including French Magazine, Flare, Elle Canada, The National Post with his incredible designs. With his intricate detailing and beautiful style, there’s no wonder we chose a dress designed by him to be work Canadian super model, Coco Rocha for Yorkdale’s 50th anniversary! From elegant black dresses to bold and vibrant colours perfect for the warmer months, Matis’ designs are something we can’t wait to get our hands on this spring and summer!
